Hallowell Fire Department Burning Permits

Hallowell Fire Department

Burning Permits

Anyone wishing to burn brush, grass, building debris, have a campfire, or a burn in anyway, etc., must contact the City Fire Warden or his Deputies for a burning permit. Permits are issued free of charge for the date issued only.

It is unlawful to have a fire without a permit. The permit does not relieve the property owner of any liability from damage to property of others or possible fire suppression cost.

THE FOLLOWING RESTRICTIONS WILL APPLY:

·      Permits are generally issued for after 5:00 PM, weather permitting

·      Sufficient adults must be present to properly tend the fire at all times

·      Adequate fire protection tools must be present near the scene at all time during the burn

·      The material to be burned should be in a clearing or separated from other areas to limit fire spread

·      Flammable liquids are not to be used to kindle the fire at anytime

·      Alcoholic beverages are not permitted during the burning period by adults tending the fire

·      Other restrictions may apply as determined by the Maine Forest Service and the City Fire Warden and/or his Deputies
