The City of Hallowell is accepting applications to fill the position of Police Officer. Hallowell is located in Kennebec County along the scenic Kennebec River. Hallowell is home to 2,570 people and features an historic downtown with a thriving art and music culture, charming historic neighborhoods, a waterfront boardwalk and walking trails in natural environments. Hallowell has a land mass of 5.5 square miles. Our Police Department roster consists of four full-time officers and reserve officer positions. Hallowell’s full-time officers can be members of the Granite City Employee’s Association Union. We use community policing methods to partner with our residents to achieve a safe and secure community.

The Hallowell Police Department is a small, community service focused department and the city makes a priority of finding patrol officers who understand the challenges of working in a small department and has an interest in developing community connections across all stakeholders. Hallowell believes that its diversity is an asset and seeks patrol officers who share those values.

Hallowell offers competitive wages and benefits, including health insurance or payment in lieu of health insurance; dental, vision, and life insurance; sick and vacation time; training and clothing allowances; paid holidays; and Maine PERS retirement. The present starting wage for this position is $32.26 per hour, but starting wage is dependent on qualifications. Applicants must be certified by the Maine Criminal Justice Academy.
